About This Journal

I had a lengthy descriptor here, but when I changed journal formats, I failed to copy and paste it.

For those new to my journal, welcome. It's a rough and bumpy ride, but then again, most things in life are. I think a lot of what you'll find in here is boring; you may not. You'll read about living with the aftereffects of a chronic and nearly terminal illness. You'll read a lot about music, including album reviews, concert reviews, and bands you've never heard of. You'll also read about a lot of British TV series, like Doctor Who, Torchwood, Blackadder, Robin Hood, Father Ted, AbFab, and many more besides.

There'll be posts about my friends and family, who I would bleed for if asked. There'll be angst, and vitriol, and tears...sometimes even laughter.

Above all, there'll be honesty.

Now unlike my competitors,
I cannot...I shall not...I will not
Promise you life everlasting.
But I can promise you -
LIFE, RIGHT NOW!

Bruce Springsteen, Light of Day (from the 1999/2000 Reunion Tour)

Thanks for joining me on this bumpy path. I appreciate your company.

sigh...

In the desert
I saw a creature, naked, bestial,
Who, squatting upon the ground,
Held his heart in his hands,
And ate of it.
I said, "Is it good, friend?"
"It is bitter – bitter", he answered,
"But I like it
Because it is bitter,
And because it is my heart."

In the Desert - Stephen Crane

Tomorrow, you have a choice. But the only way your choice can be heard is if you use your voice.

Please. Vote.

I rarely ever post anything here political. But this matters. My voice matters. Your voice matters.

Hmm...

Another long weekend.

Working on teaching foxfirebitch to drive (she is doing very well indeed, even though she accidentally ran me over yesterday...OK, that is an exaggeration, but better she tap me than another person or car)...cooking...man, the smells of cooking in the fall...cookies, cheesy potatoes, roast pork and beef...wow. So good. I love the fall for this reason...the smells just seem so much more vivid from time to time.

Things are tight but working themselves out. I think. That's good.

And doing some fun stuff in WoW...tomorrow is the big patch, so I am trying to get stuff done tonight in expectation of not being able to play at all tomorrow. So dailies, and trying to grind some rep for my next chosen exalted faction, and if time allows maybe talking people into a Scholomance run (did it last night with guild members and had a blast powering through, pulling full rooms on top of me and stuff) or Stratholme run for lower level guildies and rep (for me and them)/XP (for them).

Day off tomorrow, so cleaning/straightening up/playing with the new cat whose picture I have yet to take.

Bunch of stuff up on my prog blog...you know where to find the link. Some interviews and reviews and stuff. Fun fun fun.

All in all...I'm alive.

Oh!

My LJ account expires in 12 days. I emptied out my paypal account to get another 2 months of paid time, but if someone wants to gift me with the gift that occasionally keeps on giving, I'd love some extra time please :-)

On Holst's "The Planets"...

One of my favourite classical compositions is Gustav Host's suite The Planets. I admit this is because I first heard the movement "Mars, The Bringer of War" performed by Emerson Lake and Powell, but I have come to adore the original composition. I don't know that I can say that I know it inside and out, but I can hum most of the movements pretty well straight through.

Right now "Jupiter, The Bringer of Jollity" is playing on Delicious Agony (it's their Classical Connection program), and I am reminded at how the song just sounds...Western. Not as in being from a Western as opposed to Eastern composer, but in that it sounds like film score music for a huge, epic western film. Not a cowboy shoot 'em up, but a vast film about the first white pioneers blazing their way into the unexplored prairie and western lands. It's big, it's wide and open and airy and triumphant, with fanfares, gorgeous melodies, and incredible emotion.

"Mars" may be most easily recognisable...

but "Jupiter" may be my favourite movement.

Holy wow...

Now this is pretty damned cool:

Simply amazing...I'd almost consider a copy of Don Giovanni even though I can't really read music well...

What I'm Thinking Right Now:

Waiting...
to be born again

Wanting...
the saddest kind of pain
Waiting for the day when I will crawl away

Nothing is what I feel
Waiting...
for the drugs to make it real
Waiting...
for the day when I will crawl away

Waiting...
to be disciplined
Aching...
for your nails across my skin
Waiting... for the day when I will crawl away
